Patient Experiences with IVF at Infertility Solutions

We have asked some of our recent patients to answer questions that we thought you might like to ask about their experiences in undergoing IVF in our program.  We believe that we offer a more personalized IVF experience in which it is easier for a patient to know what she has to do in order to be successful.  Our patients feel well supported during the process and have continuous access to staff for answers to their questions.

How did the cycles go for you?

We did a total of 3 cycles with Infertility Solutions.  The first two cycles we did were IVM cycles & the last was an IVF cycle.  All of the cycles were surprisingly easy for us to undergo.  Dr Rose is a very through, open and honest person in whom we have the utmost trust.  The entire staff at Infertility Solutions makes sure that you are comfortable and confident during your treatment, which makes the entire process much less stressful than it could be.    The last cycle, which was our IVF cycle was surprisingly easy to go through.  We were initially worried about the injection medications but after your first time you realize how easy it really is to handle. The medications are surprisingly easy to administer.  The education that you receive is very through and you have access to a nurse at any time should you have any questions.

Did you have any side effects from the medications?

I did not have any side effects from the medication.

How did you handle the monitoring?

There is a lot of monitoring done for an IVF cycle due to the medications.  For our IVF cycle during the 2 week period when you are injection medications you have blood work and ultrasound scan probably every 2 days or so.  The appointments do not take long at all and are usually in the morning so it’s very easy to manage even with a very busy work and life schedule.  Our IVM cycles had significantly less monitoring than our IVF cycle.

Have you had treatment at any other infertility center?

Prior to working with Dr. Rose and his staff at Infertility Solutions we were working with another Reproductive Endocrinologist where we did several IUI’s.  We found our IUI’s to be much more stressful and difficult than our IVF with Dr. Rose.  At the other clinic where we did our IUI’s we felt rushed every time we met with our doctor and we felt like we were treated like a number.  Meeting Dr Rose and all of his staff was a totally different experience.  We could not have been happier with the time and care Dr Rose took with us.  Everyone at Infertility Solutions makes sure you are clear in your understanding of what you need to do and all of your questions are answered in a clear manner.

What was your biggest worry before starting the cycle?

Our biggest worry prior to starting our cycle was how we would handle it if we were not successful.  As anyone is aware, these procedures can be expensive and you want to have a child but at some point finances become a huge factor.

Were you supported by the staff and program as you went through the cycle?

The staff at Infertility Solutions is very supportive.  They understand how you feel while undergoing treatment.  If you have any last minute questions you can always reach a nurse, which can be a huge relief.

Is there anything else you think our patients should know?

If there is one thing I would like to share with someone considering IVF it would be that it’s not as scary or as painful as you may think.  I highly recommend Dr. Rose and the entire staff at Infertility Solutions.  We will not hesitate to work with them again.

How did the cycles go for you?

Better than expected

How difficult was it for you to undergo this cycle?

We had put this off for a while thinking we would have to make several trips to Allentown, Philadelphia, or Binghamton and when we found out about Dr. Rose’s office in Clarks Summit it was a great relief to us for that office to be so close and only have to go to Allentown a few times.  But overall the whole process of the cycle was much better than expected.

Was it hard to take the medications?

No, I was probably more worried about it than I needed to be.

Did you have any side effects from the medications?

Not from the medications.  Just after the egg retrieval I had mild to severe cramping for a few days.

How much monitoring was done?

A lot,  I was very satisfied with that.  Most of it could be done in Clarks Summit near my home and I loved that.

What worried you most before starting the cycle?

I was most worried about what the hormones would do to my body.  Also I was worried about the progesterone shots. [Note: We did not use progesterone shots for Salendra.  For the vast majority of our patients we only use progesterone vaginally.  Many patients do come to use worried about this since they have heard about progesterone injections from patients at other programs and they are painful.]

How supported were you by the infertility office and staff?

I had encouragement throughout the whole process.  The one thing I wish I had was a guideline as to what was going to happen through the process. The staff in this office was very caring and supportive throughout the process.

Other Comments:

I will also say that I was so scared and nervous about giving myself the shots, and it was all for nothing.  The shots were really nothing at all, didn’t hurt, didn’t need ice, and didn’t need my husband to give them to me, so I was worried for nothing.  But you have to understand I can’t remember the last time I ever got a shot and really just didn’t know what to expect.  If a person gives blood (like I do) this is no different.  Also, if anyone would ever request to talk to someone I would be willing to talk with them.
